IRVING, Texas - The Iowa State men's and women's cross country programs combined for 14 Academic All-Big 12 honorees, the conference office announced Thursday.
Wesley Kiptoo (Jr., Criminal Justice), Festus Lagat (Sr., Sociology), Thomas Pollard (Sr., Information Systems/Business Analytics) and Gable Sieperda (Jr., Finance) garnered first team academic recognition on the men's side, while Noah Kohut-Jackson (So., Chemical Engineering) and Timothy Sindt (Jr., Financial Counseling and Planning) are second teamers.
Pollard has now earned Academic All-Big 12 Cross Country First Team honors an incredible six times during his Cyclone career. He was also one of just six men's runners to be nominated with a 4.0 GPA.
Lagat and Sieperda repeat to become two-time First Team Academic All-Big 12 recipients, while Kiptoo, Kohut-Jackson and Sindt are all receiving this academic recognition from the conference for the first time in their careers.
On the women's side, seven Cyclones were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team. Brenna Cohoon (So., Journalism and Mass Communication), Maggie Davis (Sr., Kinesiology and Health), Grace Dickel (Jr., Microbiology), Dana Feyen (Jr. Kinesiology and Health), Madelynn Hill (Jr., Linguistics), Cailie Logue (Sr., Kinesiology and Health) and Janette Schraft (Jr., Political Science) all represented the Cardinal & Gold. Sarah Murrow (So., Psychology) was honored as a second team member.
Cohoon, Feyen and Logue all earned the distinction of being nominated with 4.0 GPAs.
Logue is now a four-time honoree, while Dickel, Feyen, Hill and Schraft earn their second career Academic All-Big 12 nod. Cohoon, Davis, Dickel and Murrow are first-time Academic All-Big 12 honorees.
A total of 72 student-athletes were honored on the men's team, while 78 student-athletes make up the women's team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
