STILLWATER, Oklahoma – The No. 17 Iowa State women gave their best but came up just short of defending their Big 12 Cross Country Championship Friday at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course. The Cyclone women placed six in the All-Big 12 positions, but missed out on the team title by one point with the Cowgirls defending their home course with 35 team points to ISU's 36.
Iowa State went with a bold, aggressive strategy to lead from the front with Iowa State having 24 points or lower at reach 1,000 meter check point prior to the halfway point. The second half of the race saw the field begin to split up with Cailie Logue, Ashley Tutt and Dana Feyen breaking off from the lead back.
Logue joined Ceili McCabe of West Virginia and Taylor Roe of Oklahoma State in a three-way race for the individual crown in the final 1,000. Logue and McCabe were battling as they made the turn for the finish line, but McCabe was able to pull ahead and hang on by less than a second over Logue to end the Cyclone's three-year run as Big 12 champion.
Logue took second in 20:45.0, becoming the first woman in Big 12 history to earn five All-Big 12 honors in her career. Tutt took fifth in her Big 12 XC debut in 21:09.5 and Dana Feyen picked up her second-straight All-Big 12 award with an eighth-place finish in 21:16.1.
Madelynn Hill was an aggressive leader from the front for Iowa State in the race and was awarded with a ninth-place finish in 21:21.2. Winrose Chesang got her second-straight All-Big12 finish in 12th in 21:35.5 and Janette Schraft got a first career All-Big 12 nod in 13th in 21:35.8.
