AMES, Iowa – An outstanding season for the No. 13 Iowa State women's cross country team was rewarded with an at-large bid to next Saturday's NCAA Cross Country Championships, hosted by Florida State. The latest trip to the National Championship meet is Iowa State's 12th in the last 13 years.
The Iowa State women's team also join the ISU men's team at the NCAA Championships, with the No. 4 Cyclone men automatically qualifying via yesterday's second-place Midwest Regional finish.
Women's coach Amy Rudolph's squad has been continually outstanding as the season has gone along, having gone from a preseason ranking of No. 30 by the USTFCCCA all the way up to No. 13 in the polls heading into yesterday's NCAA Cross Country Championships Midwest Regional.
Though ISU was unable to take down No. 5 Minnesota or No. 6 Oklahoma State to claim one of the Regional's automatic qualifying slots to the NCAA Championships, the Cyclone women were outstanding again. Senior Cailie Logue figuratively and literally led from the front, as the Erie, Kansas native won her third-straight Midwest Regional crown, sprinting past OSU's Taylor Roe up the final hill to pick up her 11th career cross country race win.
Logue led a four-Cyclone All-Region contingent, as she was joined on the podium by Ashley Tutt (ninth), Dana Feyen (14th) and Madelynn Hill (25th).
The 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships are next Saturday, hosted by Florida State at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee. The women's 6,000-meter Championship will be at 9:20 a.m. Central, with the men's 10K Championship at 10:10 a.m. Central. Both races will be shown in full on ESPNU.
