TALLAHASSEE, Florida – The Iowa State women's cross country team wrapped up its outstanding season with a ninth place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday at Apalachee Regional Park. The team finish marked ISU's first top-10 finish since taking second at the 2014 NCAA Championships.
The Cyclone effort was led by an outstanding effort from Cailie Logue, who earned her second cross country All-America honor and fourth for her Iowa State career by finishing in fourth place.
After leading from the front at both the Big 12 Championships and the NCAA Midwest Regional, it was a more measured approach for the ISU women, as they were in 23rd as a team at the first check point, but had steadily moved up to 14th by the halfway mark, with Logue among the lead-pack.
Iowa State was in 11th at the 4K checkpoint, with Logue sticking towards the front of a strung-out lead pack. The 5K check saw Logue in sixth and part of a lead-pack of nine to battle it out for the individual national title. Logue was able to hold off Big 12 rival Taylor Roe for her final spot, but was unable catch another, West Virginia's Ceili McCabe, for third-place. Logue's fourth-place effort in 19:29.8 was the highest individual finish by a Cyclone since Betsy Saina won the national title in 2012.
Ashley Tutt wrapped up her first cross country campaign with a 50th place finish in 20:07.2. Winrose Chesang stepped up with her best performance of the season, taking 104th in 20:31.4, followed closely by Dana Feyen in 1066th in 20:32.3. Madelynn Hill wrapped up ISU's scoring squad in 150th in 20:48.6.
