AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State volleyball program made another addition to its squad for 2022 with the addition of Oskaloosa outside hitter Faith DeRonde, head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch announced on Monday. DeRonde is the sixth newcomer for the Cyclones' 2022 roster, joining the previously announced incoming freshmen group of Morgan Brandt, Maya Duckworth, Kelsey Perry, Kiersten Schmitt and Lilly Wachholz.
"We are excited to add Faith to an already talented 2022 class," Johnson-Lynch said. "She is a great athlete who can play both back row and front row. She carried a heavy offensive load for her high school team, and has demonstrated a very strong arm and great range for an attacker. Fatih is another multi-sport athlete who will really blossom once she dedicates herself to just volleyball. Faith has always wanted to be a Cyclone, and I believe that will thrive in our program and be a wonderful addition on- and off-the-court."
DeRonde was the 2021 Class 4A Player of the Year, ranking sixth in the state with her 521 kills which she got at a .360 hitting percentage. Her work with the Indians helped lead them to the state tournament this season, along with Little Hawkeye regular season and conference tournament titles. In a high school career that saw her earn four first team All-Conference honors, three-time All-District, First Team All-State in 2021, Second Team All-State in 2020 and Honorable Mention All-State in 2019, DeRonde racked up 1,478 career kills, 938 digs, 166 aces and 86 blocks.
She is also a star in softball and track and field. In softball, she is a two-time All-State honoree, helping lead Oskaloosa to the State Tournament in 2019 and 2021. Last season, DeRonde posted a .349 batting average with seven home runs, while also making 22 starts at picker, posting a 2.04 ERA with 121 strikeouts. In track and field, she was one of the top throwers in the state, winning the Class 3A state title in the discus and qualifying for the state championships in three other events. She finished third in the shot put at the Drake Relays in 2021.
DeRonde comes from a Cyclone family, as her mother Sarah was a member of the track and field team from 1997-2002, and is still in ISU's all-time top-10 for the discus throw.
