- Coming off a 2-22 season, ISU has already won seven more games than it did a season ago ... ISU's +7 win improvement is the biggest in the nation.
- The Cyclones are one of six teams nationally (Duke, Gonzaga, Ohio State, Purdue, Seton Hall) with multiple wins against the top 25.
- Izaiah Brockington has continued to prove himself as one of the top transfers in the nation ... Brockington posted his fourth double-double of the season on Thursday, finishing with 29 points and 10 boards as Iowa State defeated Iowa for the first time in five meetings.
- The Cyclones' 20-point win against the Hawkeyes was its largest in series history.
- ISU is doing it by using a stifling defense and timely offense ... the Cyclones have a top-20 defense per KenPom, allowing just 59.3 points and holding opponents to 37.6 percent shooting from the field and 25.3 percent behind the arc ... they rank ninth nationally in turnover percentage, turning opponents over on 26.2 percent of their possessions.
- ISU held Iowa, which entered the game averaging 90.1 points and shooting 48.7 percent from the field to just 53 points and 27 percent shooting.
- The Cyclones have already snapped losing streaks of 18-straight games overall, eight home games, 25 games against power conference opponents, 28 games away from Hilton Coliseum, 25 games in true road contests and 19 games to nationally ranked opponents.
LAST TIME OUT
- Iowa State controlled much of the game on its way to defeating Iowa, 73-53, Thursday evening at Hilton Coliseum ... ISU's defense shut down the Hawkeyes to the tune of its lowing scoring output since 2019 ... the Hawks shot just 27 percent from the field and turned it over 12 times, their second-most this season ... the Cyclones held the nation's leading scorer, Keegan Murray, scoreless in the first half and to just nine points on 4-of-17 shooting ... offensively, it was the Izaiah Brockington show as the senior scored 29 points, while pulling down five offensive boards and 10 total rebounds ... Tyrese Hunter stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, 8 rebounds and six assists.
ISU VERSUS JACKSON STATE
- Iowa State and Jackson State are meeting for the third time ... the Cyclones won last season's meeting at a capacity reduced Hilton Coliseum by 15 points (60-45) ... Solomon Young (18) and Jalen Coleman-Lands (16) led the Cyclones in scoring ... The Tigers were paced by Tristan Jarrett's 18 points, while Jayveous McKinnis, who returns for this game, chipped in 15 points ... the Tigers shot just 26.9 percent from the field in the loss.
- T.J. Otzelberger is 1-0 against Jackson State and head coach Wayne Brent, having defeated the Tigers, 80-57, while coaching at UNLV in 2019-20.
- Otzelberger is 7-0 against current members of the SWAC.
- ISU is 37-1 all-time against teams currently in the SWAC, with all matchups being played at Hilton Coliseum ... the only loss in school history to a SWAC school came to Florida A&M in 2019 when the Rattlers were still part of the MEAC.
