AMES, Iowa – Iowa State cross country showed its ability on the cross country course throughout the fall, resulting in both the men's and women's teams finishing in the top-10 at the NCAA Championships last month. At the same time, they continued to be outstanding in the classroom, and that was rewarded on Tuesday with Cailie Logue and Thomas Pollard being named the 2021 Big 12 Cross Country Scholar Athletes of the Year.
Logue has now been Big 12 Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year for three-straight seasons, the first Big 12 woman to pick up a trio of Scholar-Athlete awards. Pollard got his second, having previously won during the 2019 season.
On the course, Logue closed out her ISU XC career with a fourth place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships last month to earn her fourth All-America honor across cross country and track and field. Logue's season saw her pick up a pair of wins at the Roy Griak Invitational and NCAA Midwest Regional, along with second place at the Big 12 Championships. In her career, Logue earned All-Big 12 XC honors five times and All-Midwest Region for XC four times. She was also named the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Runner of the Year for a third time in her career.
In the classroom, Logue carries a 3.98 GPA in Kinesiology and Health. She has been named to the Academic All-Big 12 Cross Country First Team four times and is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American.
Pollard finished out his Iowa State cross country career on a high he had been long after, earning his first career All-America honor with a 21st place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, helping lead Iowa State to second as a team at the NCAA Championships. Pollard became the first five-time All-Big 12 Men's Cross Country honoree with his seventh place finish at the conference championships, and a third career USTFCCCA All-Midwest Region honor.
In the classroom, Pollard boasts a 4.00 GPA in the Information Systems and Business Analytics graduate program. He is an eight-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree across track and a six-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree. In 2019-20 he was named a CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American.
