AMES, Iowa – A unique year with a unique cross country national championship also came with a unique qualifying format. Gone was the Regional Championships of past years and in came cross country's version of "Selection Sunday" today. For the Iowa State cross country teams, it was business as usual though, as both the men's and women's teams saw their names chosen for the NCAA Cross Country National Championships on Monday, March 15 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
For the No. 7 Iowa State men, this marks a fifth-straight qualification for the NCAA Championships as a team, where the Cyclones will be looking to finish in the top-10 for a fourth-straight season and potentially a second-straight podium finish to go with last season's fourth-place effort. Big 12 Champion Wesley Kiptoo is undefeated on the cross country course as a Cyclone, as he added to his collection last month with a dominant 15-second win at the FSU Winter Classic.
The No. 24 Iowa State women are back in the NCAA Championships for the 11th time in the last 12 seasons. Having claimed the Big 12 title in October, the Cyclones will be led by three-time Big 12 champion Cailie Logue. Iowa State's defending Female Athlete of the Year, Logue earned All-America honors in cross country last season via a 15th-place finish at the national championships.
The 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championships will take place on Monday, March 15 at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The women's 8K will go off at 11:50 a.m., while the men's 10K goes at 12:40 p.m. For the first time, the cross country championships will be televised live, with ESPNU being the home of this year's national title races.
