FROM THE NOTEBOOK
-This is the second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. Iowa State has never won a NCAA Tournament game. The Cyclones fell to Creighton, 3-2, and Nebraska, 5-2, in the NCAA Central Regional in 1988 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
-Iowa State enters the NCAA Tournament with a record of 32-21 on the season. ISU's .604 winning percentage is on pace to be the program's best since 1989 (.657).
-Jamie Pinkerton is now one of just four active head coaches in the country to guide three different programs to the NCAA Tournament, joining Tyra Perry (Illinois), Lu Harris-Champer (Georgia) and Mickey Dean (Auburn). Pinkerton led Arkansas to regionals in 2008 & 2009, Montana in 2017 and Iowa State in 2021.
-Sami Williams and Mikayla Ramos are one of two sets of teammates to both rank in the top 10 nationally in RBI, joining Tiare Jennings and Jocelyn Alo (Oklahoma). Williams and Ramos are T-No. 9 nationally with 54 RBI each. They are also tied atop Iowa State's single-season RBI list.
-The Cyclones are coming off a fifth-place finish at the 2021 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship in Oklahoma City. Iowa State defeated Baylor, 3-1, in the fifth-place game.
-Sami Williams, a finalist for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award, holds ISU's all-time records for hits (329) doubles (79), home runs (67), RBI (180), runs scored (212), at-bats (833) and games played (253).
-Williams collected the 329th base hit of her career with a double vs. Baylor in OKC, breaking the Big 12 career hits record of 328, set by Norrelle Dickson (OU, 2004-07).
-Williams is now the Big 12's all-time leader in career hits (329), doubles (79) and total bases (627). Williams' 79 career doubles are tied for third-most in NCAA DI softball history. Her 627 total bases are fourth-most in NCAA history.
-Milaysia Ochoa is T-No. 1 in the Big 12 and ranks T-No. 15 among NCAA freshmen with 18 stolen bases.
-So far in 2021, 86.5 percent of all innings have been pitched by a freshman or sophomore. Shannon Mortimer is the lone upperclassman in the bullpen.
-Iowa State has hit 62 home runs this season, setting a new single-season school record. The program's single-season home run record has been set in each of Jamie Pinkerton's three full seasons as Iowa State's head coach (2018 - 45, 2019 - 48, 2021 - 62). The record was 40 prior to Pinkerton's arrival in Ames.
