AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State volleyball team were recipients of the United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association (USMC/AVCA) Team Academic Award, the AVCA announced on Monday.
The Cyclones earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for a second-straight academic year and the fifth time since the inception of the award in 1992-93. All five USMC/AVCA Team Academic Awards ISU has earned have come with Christy Johnson-Lynch at the helm of the program.
Iowa State boasted a team cumulative GPA of 3.47 for 2020-21 after posting a 3.53 team GPA during the Spring 2021 semester. The Cyclones had a pair of perfect 4.0 GPAs in the spring, 11 members of the squad made the Dean's List (3.50 semester GPA) and 15 were named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Spring 2021 semester (3.00 semester GPA).
To be eligible for the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award, the program has to maintain a 3.30 cumulative team GPA.
