MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Senior Cailie Logue took home the individual title at the Roy Griak Invitational on Friday morning in her first race of the 2021 season. Logue led the way as No. 30 Iowa State finished second among a strong field at Les Bolstad Golf Course.
Logue, who did not run in Iowa State's season-opening victory at the Hawkeye Invitational, surged in the back half of the race to finish first out of 234 runners at the Griak. The senior out of Erie, Kan., was in 13th place at the race's midway point before out-pacing the field after the 3,000-meter mark to win with a time of 20:57.9 – besting Michigan State's Jenna Magness by two seconds.
Northern Illinois transfer Ashley Tutt had a strong outing in her Cyclone debut, finishing 16th in 21:33.6. Madelynn Hill (17th – 21:44.7) and Dana Feyen (19th – 21:45.4) were hot on her heels to give ISU four runners in the top 20. Janette Schraft finished 28th in 21:59.9 to round out the Iowa State scoring effort.
Next Up
The Iowa State women will be back on the course at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour in Madison, Wisconsin on Oct. 15. The women's "A" race is set to begin at 12:20 p.m.
