AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State swimming and diving team (5-1, 0-0 Big 12) hosts Big 12 foe TCU (2-2, 0-0 Big 12) in a two-day dual beginning Friday, Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. through Saturday, Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. The dual marks the first head-to-head meeting between Big 12 teams of the season.
THE OPPONENT- TCU
Iowa State holds the series advantage with a record of 4-1-1. The Cyclones last met the Horned Frogs in 2018 where Iowa State won by 26, while the lone loss came in the 2013-14 season. This season, TCU's swimmers and divers have picked up third- and fourth-place finishes in five invitationals in addition to duals. Iowa State is the lone Big 12 team TCU will meet prior to the Big 12 Championships.Â
LAST TIME- Iowa
Iowa State captured the largest series margin of victory over Iowa with their 112-point win of 191-79. The finish tallied the fifth victory of the season to make for the best season record since the 2014-15 squad also got off to a 5-1 start. Seven changes to the books were recorded as the Cyclones tallied the 15th win in series history over the Hawkeyes.Â
WHAT TO WATCH FOR- Distance
Distance events could prove to come down to the wire as Iowa State and TCU swimmers have turned in similar times. The Cyclone distance squad has notched nine season victories in the 500 and 1000 free while adding an all-time top performance and three top times. Swimmers compete in the 1000 free on Friday and the 500 free Saturday.Â
ON DECK – West Virginia/Villanova
The Cyclones travel to Morgantown, W. Va. Jan. 22 for a double dual against West Virginia and Villanova. The competition is Iowa State's final road dual of the 2021-22 season.Â
