AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State swimming and diving team (6-1, 1-0 Big 12) heads to Morgantown, W. Va. to meet West Virginia (2-1, 0-0 Big 12) and Villanova (5-2, 3-0 Big East) for the lone double dual on the 2021-22 slate. The Cyclones continue their best start since the 2009-10 season with a 6-1 dual record.
THE OPPONENTS- WVU and Villanova
Competition begins at 10 a.m. at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park. West Virginia last competed at the WVU Invitational on Nov. 20 where the Mountaineers came out with the win. Villanova also contended at the WVU Invite, finishing second out of six teams. Villanova's last outing resulted in a loss against Pittsburgh on Jan. 20. The double dual marks Villanova's third meet this week.Â
LAST TIME- TCU
The Cyclones prevailed by a score of 173-161 against the Horned Frogs. Iowa State battled through four lead changes to end the dual victorious. Martha Haas' and Winter Craig's swims earned them their first Big 12 weekly honors of their careers. Divers posted seven Zone-qualifying marks in the two-day dual including the first cuts of the season on the platform.Â
WHAT TO WATCH FOR - DivingÂ
The Iowa State divers continue their dominant season in West Virginia as they have tallied 18 Zone cuts on the season. Lauren Kimball dove to her first career qualifying score with 281.95 on the one-meter against TCU to become the fourth diver this season to earn a cut, the most since the 2015-16 season. Kimball becomes the seventh freshman diver since 2000 to achieve a Zone cut. Michelle Schlossmacher Smith is the newest to take down a Beyer Pool record as she posted a new PR of 249.25 on platform.Â
ON DECK- Kansas
Iowa State hosts Kansas for the final dual of the season on Feb. 4 and 5. Competition begins at 6 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday. Senior Day will take place on Saturday and seniors will be honored prior to competition.Â
