AMES, Iowa – Already with two Cheryl Miller Awards to her name, given to women's college basketball's top small forward, the pursuit for a third for Ashley Joens is officially underway, as the Iowa State star was named to the 2022-23 Cheryl Miller Award Watch List on Wednesday.
This adds to Joens preseason accolades, as she had previously been named the 2022-23 Big 12 Women's Basketball Preseason Player of the Year and was a unanimous selection to the 2022-23 All-Big 12 Preseason Team.
Joens, a fifth-year senior from Iowa City, returns for her fifth season as a Cyclone as Iowa State's all-time leading scorer with 2,369 career points, which also ranks her atop active players nationally. In 2021-22, Joens averaged 20.3 points per game, hitting 91 3-pointers on the season. An AP and USBWA Second Team All-American in 2021-22, Joens racked up 18 double-doubles last season.
Iowa State, ranked No. 8 in yesterday's Associated Press Preseason Poll, makes its first appearance in Hilton Coliseum on Wednesday, Nov. 2 for an exhibition against Winona State prior to the regular season kickoff against Cleveland State on Monday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. at Hilton.
Season and single-game tickets are for sale through the Iowa State Athletics Ticket Office, here.
