AMES, Iowa – Eleanor Holthaus and Maya Duckworth were named All-Big 12 honorees, the conference announced Tuesday. Holthaus picked up first team honors while Duckworth earned second team. Duckworth also was a unanimous selection to the All-Rookie Team.
Holthaus becomes the first in Iowa State history to earn four All-Big 12 First Team honors. In her final season, Holthaus hit numerous milestones including totaling the fifth-most kills (1,484), most sets played (498) and most matches played (134) in program history. Holthaus is the leader this season in kills with 366 at 3.05 per set. Holthaus also leads with 29 aces and has the second-highest dig total with 245.
Holthaus has 78 matches through her career with 10-plus kills, the fifth-highest match total in ISU history. The senior also has six 20-plus kill performances through her career, with two coming from this season, to tie the eighth-most.
Duckworth is the third ISU freshman to notch All-Big 12 honors, joining Alexis Conaway (2014) and Jess Schaben (2015) who also earned second team honors in their first year out. The freshman from Hurst, Texas ranks second behind Holthaus in kills with 293 at 2.74 per set. At the service line, Duckworth has delivered 20 aces. Duckworth has shown her defense too, totaling 55 total blocks and 185 digs.
Duckworth is one of three freshmen to earn All-Big 12 honors and one of four unanimous All-Rookie Team selections among the conference this season. Duckworth is also the 11th Iowa State freshman to land a spot since the All-Rookie Team's 2007 introduction. The rookie has seven double-doubles, 19 double-digit kill and eight double-digit dig performances this season.
Holthaus and Duckworth take on the first round of the NCAA Tournament this Friday, Dec. 2 in Gainesville, Fla.
