The Lead:Â After a second place finish in the Phil Knight Invitational, the Iowa State men's basketball team will return home to face the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. Tipoff against UNDÂ is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
Storylines:
The Cyclones entered the Associated Press and the USA Today Coaches Polls for the first time this season on Monday. ISU is ranked 23rd in both polls.
Iowa State has now advanced to the championship game of a holiday tournament in seven of their last nine appearances. ISU has four titles in that span.Â
Caleb Grill scored 31 points in the win over No. 1 North Carolina on Friday. Grill is the eighth player since 1996 to hit seven or more 3-pointers against the top-ranked team in the country, but just the second to do so in a win. Dedric Willoughby hit nine against No. 1 Kansas on Feb. 9, 1997.
With three players that have scored 1,000 points or more in their careers on the roster, Iowa State is one of 13 schools in the country with three or more.Â
