AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head tennis coach Boomer Saia announced Thursday the addition of Xinyi Nong to the 2023 spring roster.
Nong, a Wenshan, China, native, has had success in both singles and doubles action and has great upside when she arrives at Iowa State. She was a singles semifinalist at the Jiaxing ITF and a doubles finalist at the Nonthaburi ITF.
"Xinyi is going to add so much to our team and culture," Saia said. "She is hungry to improve and learn. We are very excited to work with her as I believe her best tennis is ahead of her. Her talent mixed with her work ethic will add tremendous value to our squad for years to come."
Nong, who will be a freshman upon her arrival in Ames, is excited to join a Cyclone squad that has reached back-to-back NCAA Tournaments.
"I'm very excited about coming to Iowa State and the United States to meet people from around the world," Nong said. "I chose Iowa State because of the great opportunity to play on an excellent team while getting a top-class education. Coach Saia's personality and approach to coaching was a big part of my decision as well."
The Cyclones open the spring schedule January 5-7 at the Hawai'i Spring Invitational.
