AMES, Iowa – Iowa State offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Nate Scheelhaase has been named a finalist for the FootballScoop Wide Receivers Coach of the Year award.
Scheelhaase, who was elevated to offensive coordinator for the Cyclones following the season, coached Biletnikoff Award finalist Xavier Hutchinson to a record-setting season in 2022.
Hutchinson broke his own school record with 107 receptions, leading the nation with 8.9 receptions per game. He had at least eight receptions in 11 of 12 games and finished with 40 more receptions than the next best receiver in the Big 12 Conference.
His 1,171 receiving yards rank seventh nationally. Hutchinson finished his career with 254 receptions, the most-ever by a Big 12 receiver that played just three seasons.
Among the other ISU receivers, Jaylin Noel finished with 60 receptions for 572 yards and three touchdowns, while Dimitri Stanley had 33 catches for 420 yards and a touchdown as the Cyclones averaged 261.8 receiving yards per game, the fourth-highest total in school history which also ranked in the top half of the Big 12 Conference.
Scheelhaase joined the Cyclone coaching staff in 2018 and was named to 247Sports "30Under30" list in 2019. He has also coached the Cyclone running backs during his tenure, mentoring two-time consensus All-American Breece Hall and All-American David Montgomery.
