The Lead:Â After handing St. John's its first loss of the season, the Iowa State men's basketball team will turn its attention toward in-state rival Iowa in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series on Thursday evening. Tipoff against the Hawkeyes is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be televised on FS1.
Storylines:
The Cyclones moved up in both the Associated Press and the USA Today Coaches Polls this week, going from 23rd up to 20th.
Entering Wednesday night's women's game, Iowa State owns an 11-2 lead in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series this year. The next win by an Iowa State team will clinch the trophy for the second-straight year.
Iowa State improved to 3-0 all-time in the Big 12/BIG EAST Battle on Sunday with a 71-60 victory over St. John's. The game was the final game of the challenge, with the two league splitting games 5-5. Overall, Iowa State is 9-7 in challenge games.
Tamin Lipsey is averaging 6.3 points, 3.8 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in the first eight games. Lipsey and Kentucky's Cason Wallace are the only two true freshmen in the country averaging those numbers.

He is also the only NBA, WNBA, or Division I men's or women's player in the last 20 years to total 30+ points, 20+ rebounds, 4+ assists, 4+ 3-pointers, and 2+ blocks in the same game.Â
