AUSTIN, Texas – No. 23 Texas (17-6, 6-4 Big 12) outscored No. 20 Iowa State (16-7, 3-7 Big 12) 38-18 in the second half en route to a 63-41 victory Saturday afternoon in the Erwin Center.
A decisive 15-0 run in the second half put the game away, as the Longhorns made six of their nine 3-pointers and the Cyclones struggled to score after intermission.
Izaiah Brockington led the Cyclones in scoring (12) and rebounding (8). Brockington has been in double-figure scoring 19 times this season.
Tyrese Hunter chipped in with 10 points and seven boards for the Cyclones.
Andrew Jones led the Longhorns with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.
Iowa State led 20-16 in the first half behind a 17-6 run. The Longhorns bounced back to take the lead at the half, 25-23.
It was all Texas in the second half.
Two 3-pointers by Courtney Ramey and Andrew Jones pushed the Longhorn lead to 38-31 in the early moments of the second period. The 3-pointers kept falling for UT, as the Longhorns buried 3-pointers on three-straight possessions during the key 15-0 run.
ISU stays on the road, traveling to West Virginia on Tuesday. Tipoff is at 6 p.m. CT.
