AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State divers head to Madison, Wis. for the 2022 Zone 'D' Diving Championships. The event takes place from Monday, March 7 to Wednesday, March 9. Four divers will compete through the three events.
Competition begins Monday on the one-meter, followed on Tuesday with the three-meter and concludes Wednesday on the platform. Events begin at 11 a.m. each day. Michelle Schlossmacher Smith, Jayna Misra, Joscelyn Buss and Lauren Kimball will dive on both springboards while Schlossmacher Smith and Buss are also set to contend on the platform.Â
At the Big 12 Championships, eight more Zone cuts were secured as the Cyclones combine for 38 this season. The amount is the highest in school history, leading the previous record of 31 set in the 2009-10 season.
Schlossmacher Smith has tallied 23 Zone cuts this season, ascending the previous high leading into Zones of 21 by Tien Tran in the 2009-10 season. The total is six marks off tying the program-high 29 set by Tien Tran in 2009-10.Â
Buss became the second sophomore in school history to notch a cut in all three events. Buss currently has dove to three qualifying scores on both the one-meter and platform and two on the three-meter.Â
Kimball recorded her name as an all-time top-five freshman on the platform with her Big 12's score of 212.25. The Buckingham, Iowa native has cemented three scores above the Zone-qualifying standard in her introductory season.
Misra has four Zone cuts to her name through six competitions. The junior holds the current second-highest one-meter score in Iowa State history.
