AMES, Iowa – A nine-run Red Raider second inning was too much for Iowa State to overcome Saturday afternoon at the Cyclone Sports Complex. The Cyclones (21-21, 2-7 Big 12) dropped the series rubber match, 9-1, in five innings to Texas Tech (21-20, 4-8 Big 12).
ISU was held without a hit until the fourth inning when Alesia Ranches led off with a triple to right-center field. Carli Spelhaug logged Iowa State's only other knock of the game, a single in the fifth inning.
The Cyclones' lone run came in the third frame after Skyler Ramos reached via walk, advanced to second on a passed ball and stole third before Angelina Allen drove her in with a chopper to shortstop.
Texas Tech's nine runs came on three hits in the second inning, including a three-run home run from Abbie Orrick.
Ellie Spelhaug (7-13) suffered the decision in the circle for ISU. Janessa Jasso tossed three innings of relief and allowed only one hit and no runs while retiring nine of the 10 batters she faced.
