AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State football team lost six starters from the offense a year ago and looks to replace the leaders on a unit that produced a number of school records.
Jirehl Brock is a strong candidate to earn the starting spot after rushing for a team-high 42 yards in the Cheez-It Bowl against Clemson. Brock backed up Breece Hall the last two seasons and has rushed for 174 yards.
Trevor Downing, a First-Team All-Big 12 selection as a junior, enters his senior season with a move to the center position likely. The Creston, Iowa, native started all 13 games last season, including making the start at center against Clemson. He's got 26 career starts.
Brock, Downing and Cyclone offensive coordinator Tom Manning met with the media this afternoon to discuss spring football practice and the team's progression.
