Iowa State 42nd in LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup Final Standings

AMES, Iowa - Iowa State finished 42nd nationally and sixth in the Big 12 in the final 2021-22 LEARFIELD Directors' Cup Division I standings, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics announced this week. The Cyclones amassed 78.5 points in the spring sports season, bringing the season total to 540.5 points. Iowa State has finished in the top 50 the last two seasons.
Four Iowa State teams contributed to the scoring in the spring season. The women's tennis team scored 25 points, while the women's golf and men's outdoor track & field teams added 22.5 points each. The women's outdoor track and field team tallied 8.5 points.
The women's tennis team finished the season 16-7 overall and advanced to their second-straight NCAA Tournament, which represents the only two appearances in school history.
Iowa State's women's golf team finished ninth at the NCAA Stanford Regional, while having a pair of NCAA National Championship qualifiers in Taglao Jeeravivitaporn and Ruby Chou.
Both the men's and women's outdoor track and field teams got on the board at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, with Jason Gomez finishing fourth in the men's 800-meter run and Emily March taking eighth in the women's discus.Â
Cyclone wrestling finished 17th at the NCAA Championships, earning 57 points in the standings. Iowa State crowned three All-Americans, led by a third-place finish from David Carr at 157 pounds.
Both Cyclone basketball teams reached the Sweet 16, as they each earned 64 points. Iowa State was one of three schools that earned 64 points from both basketball teams. The Iowa State men finished the year 22-13 overall, while the women set a school record for wins with a 28-7 record.
The gymnastics team qualified for its 14th NCAA Regional in the last 15 years. The Cyclones defeated Western Michigan 195.75-193.575 in the first round and finished fourth in the second round.
The ISU men's and women's cross country teams were responsible for 90 and 69 points, respectively, thanks to Top 10 placements this season. The Cyclone men were national runners-up while the women placed ninth at the 2021 NCAA Championships.
Volleyball's 15th NCAA Tournament appearance added 25 points to Iowa State's total. On the gridiron, a season that saw football's program-record fifth consecutive trip to a bowl game rounded out the Cyclones' fall scoring.
