AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State football program is steadfast in its commitment to community service and on Friday welcomed back a tradition that was put on hold due to the pandemic.
One of the favorite days of the year in the program is Victory Day, an event that allowed more than 60 kids with disabilities to live out their dreams by competing in drills and scoring touchdowns at MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium.
The event included the Iowa State Football Varsity Marching Band and the Iowa State Spirit Squad and was filled with smiles and laughs from everyone involved.
This season was the fifth under head coach Matt Campbell's guidance in which Victory Day was held after he brought it with him from Toledo.
"What makes this place really special is that you can make a difference," Campbell said. "And tonight you got to watch our kids make a difference. At the end of the day we all want to win, we all want to have great success but there is no greater impact you can have in life than to make a difference in the lives of others and that's what tonight is all about."
Redshirt junior running back Jirehl Brock echoed Campbell's thoughts.
"This night means a lot to us," Brock said. "This gives us an opportunity to think about others and to be appreciative for the opportunities we have that others often do not."
