09.05.2022 | Football, Cyclone Club
AMES, Iowa – Xavier Hutchinson has been named the Cyclone Club Student-Athlete of the Week after an impressive performance in the season opener Saturday against SEMO.
Hutchinson became the first Cyclone to haul in three touchdown passes in a game since Quenton Bundrage in 2013. All three of his TDs came in the first half of the game.
The redshirt senior was Hunter Dekkers' favorite option through the air, grabbing eight of 10 targets for 128 yards. It marked his seventh career 100-yard receiving game, the sixth-most in school history, and the fourth-most receiving yards in a season opener in school history.
Hutchinson, a Jacksonville, Fla. native, now has a reception in all 26 games of his Cyclone career, the fifth-longest streak in school history. Hutchinson moved into eighth in school history with 1,886 receiving yards.
Iowa State football is back in action Saturday against Iowa in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series in Iowa City. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
