Honolulu, Hawai'i – Iowa State swept doubles action for the third consecutive day and went 3-2 in singles play to close out the final day of the Weinman Foundation Invitational.
In their first matches of the spring season, head coach Boomer Saia and his team impressed.
Iowa State played a total of nine doubles matches across three days and won all nine matches. The Cyclones were unfazed going up against Pac-12 powers No. 12 California and No. 14 Southern California as they went 5-0 combined in doubles play against two of the nation's top-15 program's.
Senior Thasaporn Naklo showed out as well, not losing a match through the entirety of the tournament, the only member of her teammates to do so. On the third and final day of the Wienman Foundation Invitational. No. 57 Naklo took on the Bear's Haley Giavara and came out on top after a long three sets with a final score of 6-3, 6-7, 7-6. This weekend improves her overall collegiate record to 121-69, just four wins shy from moving up to the No. 7 spot in program history.
A day after cracking the program's all-time career wins list, junior Miska Kadleckova picked up another ranked win, the 12th of her career. Kadleckova went head-to-head with No. 93 Hannah Viller Moeller from California and won 7-5, 6-3.
"Really proud of our group and the way we carried ourselves the whole tournament," said Saia. "Each day our players were able to set the tone early with doubles and we fought unbelievably hard in singles. This was a good step in front of a long season."
The Cyclones will leave Hawai'i having gone a staggering 9-0 in doubles play and 12-5 in singles play.
Two dual matches are next as the team will be back in action in Des Moines next Saturday, Jan. 14th in a double header against the Drake Bulldogs at 11:00 AM and the South Dakota Coyotes at 4:00 PM CT.
