Brock Purdy and the 49ers stayed perfect on the season, reaching 5-0 after beating the Cowboys, 42-10, on Sunday Night Football. Purdy had another fantastic game completing more than 70 percent of his passes and tossing four touchdowns, including three to his top target George Kittle. Purdy is now 10-0 as a starter in the regular season and is 2-0 as an NFL starter in the month of October. Purdy is the only Quarterback in the NFL this season to complete more than 70 percent of his passes and have over 1,000 yards passing without throwing an interception. Purdy also leads the league in QBR among eligible starters after week five.

The Jets ended a three-game losing streak in Denver with a 31-21 win aided by great performances from three former Cyclones. Running back Breece Hall had the best game of his young NFL career recording 194 total yards, including 177 rushing yards and one touchdown. The 177 rushing yards were the most-ever by a former Cyclone in the NFL. Hall recorded a career-long 72-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter, beating his previous career best of 62 yards. After the game, Hall entered the top-10 in rushing yards in the NFL after five weeks. Allen Lazard added three catches for 33 yards to the Jets offense. Will McDonald recovered a fumble in the second half to help the Jets solidify their lead.

David Montgomery and the Detroit Lions continue to shine in the 2023 season, beating the Panthers, 42-24, at home and improving to 4-1 this season. Montgomery added 109 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries, as well as two catches for 20 yards in the Lions' week five win. Montgomery's start as a Lion continues to impress as he is top-10 in the league in rushing yards and top-5 in rushing touchdowns with six. In addition, Montgomery has four straight games recording at least 60 rushing yards in each game for the first time since 2020.
