AMES, Iowa – The USTFCCCA No. 17 Iowa State men's cross country team ran to a fourth-place team finish behind three Top 10 teams at the 2023 Big 12 Championships on Saturday morning. It marks the 18th-straight season the Cyclones have posted a top-five team finish. Said Mechaal led Iowa State and earned All-Big 12 honors with a seventh-place individual finish. Gable Sieperda, Silas Winders and Devan Kipyego ran 8K collegiate bests while five Cyclones ran season-best times.

Mechaal ran his best race of the season, finishing the 8K in 23:03.7, just five seconds off his collegiate best (22:58.6). Following Mechaal was cluster of Cyclones. Sieperda (26th, 23:41.0), Sanele Masondo (27th, 23:42.6), Ezekiel Rop (28th, 23:46.8) and Rodgers Kiplimo (30th, 23:54.4) finished as the other four official scores for ISU while Silas Winders (31st, 23:54.4), Tim Sindt (32nd, 23:54.5) and Kelvin Bungei (36th, 24:03.6) finished towards the front as well.
Sieperda ran a new personal best in the 8K, shaving off two seconds from last September's time at the Gans Creek Classic (23:43.0) and breaking the 24-minute mark for the fifth time in his career. Masondo and Kiplimo also ran a season bests, improving their respective times by over 30 seconds each since the Cyclones ran at Nuttycombe two weeks ago. Rop also shaved off over 30 seconds from his previous season best set at the Virginia Invitational on September 23.
Winders ran a personal best, breaking the 24-minute mark for the first time in his career while Devan Kipyego ran a new collegiate best in his third meet of the season. Sindt just was one second off his personal best but posted a season-best time.

The Cyclones travel to Stillwater on November 10th to compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. The men's 8K race is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. CT at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course.
