11.20.2023 | Cross Country, Cyclone Club
AMES, Iowa - Sanele Masondo is the Cyclone Club Athlete of the Week after leading the Iowa State men's cross country team to a top-five finish at the 2023 NCAA Championships.
Masondo earned All-America honors for the first time in his career courtesy of a 16th-place finish in the meet.
The KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa native clocked a 29:22.1 in the 10K race. He shaved 1:01.6 off his time from the regional meet last week.
Despite not reaching a national ranking higher than No. 17 during the season, Masondo and the Cyclones finished fifth at the NCAA Championships, their eighth ever top-5 finish at the national championship.
About the Cyclone Club
The Cyclone Club spearheads the fundraising efforts for the Iowa State Athletic department and gifts of all sizes directly impact the lives of over 450 student-athletes at Iowa State. Annual Cyclone Club gifts provide ISU student-athletes the opportunity to compete in their sport at the highest level, while preparing them to utilize their Iowa State degree once their athletic careers have concluded. Iowa State Athletics does not receive any State or University funding to operate, thereby making it one of the nation's only financially self-sufficient athletic programs.
