Tipping Off: Iowa State will open its 2023-24 campaign at home on Monday, Nov. 6, at Hilton Coliseum against the Green Bay Phoenix at 7 p.m. The Cyclones and Phoenix will meet for just the second time ever, as head coach T.J. Otzelberger and the Cyclones will begin their quest to make the Dance for the third straight season.
Iowa State and Green Bay will meet for just the second time on Monday, as the Cyclones earned a 74-57 victory in the teams' only other meeting back on Dec. 4, 1986.
Storylines:
- Iowa State will look to win its sixth straight home opener Monday evening, as the Cyclones are 24-1 in season-openers over the past 25 years.
- In the first season of an expanded Big 12, Iowa State was picked to finish seventh after all Big 12 coaches cast their ballots.
- As a head coach, T.J. is 140-90 overall and has led the Cyclones to a 41-27 record over the last two seasons.
- The Cyclones lost their top four leading scorers from last season and brought in nine newcomers, including three transfers and six freshmen.
- Iowa State, Houston, Tennessee and San Diego State are the only schools to rank in the Top 10 of KenPom's Adjusted Defense rankings the past two years.

- Iowa State is playing its 117th season of men's basketball.
- T.J. Otzelberger owns the fourth-highest winning percentage amongst ISU coaches in program history.
- After just two seasons, Otzelberger has coached ISU to seven wins over AP top 10 teams. That's the second most under any head coach in school history.
- Big 12 All-Freshman Team member Tamin Lipsey returns after averaging 7.3 points, 4.4 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 2.45 turnovers per game.
- He was one of two players in the country to average those numbers last season and just the ninth in the last 10 years to do so.
Switching Sides:
- Green Bay returns two contributors from last year's team, which finished 2-18 in conference play and 3-28 overall.
- Sundance Wicks will enter his first season as the head coach of the Phoenix, taking over for Will Ryan.
- Wicks was previously the head coach at Missouri Western for a pair of seasons (2018-19, 2019-20) and he spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Wyoming.
- The Phoenix were picked to finish last in the Horizon League preseason poll after the league's head coaches, SIDs and media members voted in October.
- Green Bay's roster consists of six first-year transfers as well as six freshmen. Clarence Cummings III, Ryan Wade and Amari Jedkins (redshirt) all return for the Phoenix.
