AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State swimming and diving program has swept the three weekly Big 12 awards for the first time in the 2023-24 season. Senior Andie Quirke won the Women's Big 12 Swimmer of the Week, redshirt sophomore Lauren Kimball won the Women's Big 12 Diver of the Week, and freshman Emma Kuhn won the Women's Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.
Quirke won the Big 12 Swimmer of the Week award for the first time in her Iowa State career. Quirke had a strong showing at the Hawkeye Invite, starting in the 50 free with a new personal best of 23.24 in the prelims, placing fifth overall, followed by a top-eight finish in the finals. In the 100 free, Quirke finished the prelims with a personal best of 50.90 in the prelims, while securing fifth overall in both the prelims and the finals. Quirke also set personal best splits in the 200 free relay with a 22.61 split and the 400 medley relay split of 49.95.
Kimball finished in first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving finals for the Cyclones. At the 1-meter finals, Kimball scored 290.75, which was a personal best and helped her secure a second zone diving cut in 1-meter this season. Kimball had an even stronger showing on the 3-meter board, putting up a 325.30 score, breaking her personal best of 303.65 set earlier this season against South Dakota State. The score entered Kimball into No. 4 on the all-time top performers' list in Iowa State diving history and the No. 7 all-time top score in 3-meter diving.
Kuhn set multiple personal bests over her weekend in Iowa City. In the 200 IM prelims, Kuhn had a 2:03.55 time, which earned her a top-eight spot. Kuhn also finished eighth in the 200 IM finals. Kuhn set another best in the 200 back finals, finishing at a time of 2:02.86. The time was enough to place Kuhn at No. 20 in the all-time top performers list. Kuhn placed 13th overall in the 100 fly with a 56.03 time in the finals. The freshman from Cape Town, S. Africa, is also showing promise in the relay events by leading her team to third place in the 200 yard medley relay.
Quirke, Kimball, and Kuhn will look to build on these performances as the Cyclones host their in-state rival Iowa on Friday at 6 p.m. in Beyer Hall.
