AMES, Iowa – Iowa State defensive coordinator Jon Heacock and defensive linemen Joey Petersen and Tyler Onyedim met with media following the fourth practice of the spring.
Heacock, in his eighth season at ISU, has helped build the Cyclone defensive unit into one of the nation's best. ISU led the Big 12 in scoring defense, rushing defense, passing defense and total defense in 2022 and will return seven starters from that team.
Petersen and Onyedim are competing for the starting spot on the ends of the defensive line.
Petersen, a junior from Long Grove, Iowa, made 15 tackles while playing in all 12 games last season.
Onyedim, a redshirt sophomore from Richmond, Texas, had 11 tackles, including three for a loss. He also had an interception against Southeast Missouri.
