AMES, Iowa – Iowa State held its spring football game Saturday at MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium.
The game was an offense vs. defense format and each side could earn points for different winning situations such as scoring plays, forcing turnovers and other big plays as determined by the coaching staff.
The offense outpaced the defense with a 54-35 victory in the contest.
Jirehl Brock returned to the field after missing the end of last season due to injury. He carried the ball a team-high 11 times for 47 yards and a touchdown. Eli Sanders and newcomer Arlen Harris Jr. also rushed for a touchdown each.
Hunter Dekkers and Rocco Becht each completed 11 passes for 101 yards and 112 yards, respectively. Becht and JJ Kohl both threw for a score.
Tight end Andrew Keller led the receiving efforts with five grabs for 44 yards and a touchdown. Gabe Burkle also hauled in a touchdown reception.
Treyveon McGee and Cam Smith led the defense with five tackles apiece. Caleb Bacon, Aidan Ralph and Johnny Wilson each tallied a sack while Malik Verdon also logged a tackle for loss.
Prior to the game, Iowa State revealed its throwback uniforms that it will wear for the Jack Trice Legacy Game, presented by Nationwide, on Saturday, October 7 when it plays host to TCU at the stadium that bears his name.
