PORTSMOUTH, Va. –Iowa State seniors Gabe Kalscheur and Osun Osunniyi have been selected to play in the 2023 Portsmouth Basketball Invitational Tournament. Team rosters, with eight teams making up the field, will be announced in the near future for the senior showcase, taking place April 12-15.
In two years at Iowa State, Kalscheur appeared in 68 games for the Cyclones, leading Iowa State to back-to-back NCAA Tournament Appearances and a Sweet 16 trip in 2022. He scored 761 points, while connecting on 113 3-pointers as a Cyclone. In his five-year career that started at Minnesota, Kalscheur scored 1,677 points over 156 games. He tallied 293 3-pointers and 166 steals, while playing nearly 5,000 minutes on the floor. Kalscheur earned All-Big 12 Second Team and NABC Second Team All-District honors this season, while also being selected to the Reese's College All-Star Game held at the Final Four last week.
Osunniyi earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors this season, averaging 8.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocked shots per game. Osunniyi finished his career with 1,372 points, 1,027 rebounds and 340 blocked shots. He is one of just 10 players in the last 25 years to put up those numbers in a career in NCAA Division I. Osunniyi and TCU's Kevin Samuel are the only two players to have tallied those numbers in Big 12 history. Osunniyi shot 57.7 percent from the floor, the fifth-best by a senior in school history.
The P.I.T. invites 64 of the best college basketball seniors from across the nation to participate in the four-day, 12-game tournament in front of representatives from every NBA team.
