Joens Selected as Inaugural Bob Bowlsby Award Winner

ARLINGTON, Texas – Iowa State women's basketball's Ashley Joens has been named the female recipient of the inaugural Bob Bowlsby Award from the Big 12 Conference as announced by Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark on Wednesday afternoon.

Joens finished her Cyclone career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 3,060 points and was just the 14^th player in NCAA Division I Women's Basketball history to reach 3,000 points. She is the ninth all-time leading scorer among NCAA Division I women's basketball players. In her final season, Joens averaged 21.6 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game.

In addition to her point total, she holds Cyclone career records for scoring average, field goals made and attempted, three-point field goals made and attempted, free throws made and attempted, rebounds and games played.

She was named the Big 12 Player of the Year in her final season and was a four-time unanimous All-Big 12 First Team selection, a three-time recipient of the Cheryl Miller Award, and a two-time WBCA All-American. Joens also claimed two AP All-America and two USBWA All-America nods in her final two seasons.

Outstanding work off the court and in the classroom also earned Joens Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors in her final three seasons, as well as Second Team honors in the 2019-20 season.

Joens led the Cyclones to a Big 12 Tournament Championship, their first since 2001, and an automatic berth to the 2023 NCAA Tournament. She was also named the Most Outstanding Player of the Championship after averaging 26.7 points and 11.0 rebounds in leading the Cyclones to their third tournament title. She scored 30 points against Baylor, 22 against No. 14 Oklahoma, and 28 in the championship game against No. 15 Texas.

In April, Joens was drafted 19^th overall in the WNBA Draft to the Dallas Wings, the fourth highest draft pick in school history.

About the Bob Bowlsby Award

In recognition of the contributions of former Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby, the Big 12 Board of Directors have established the Bob Bowlsby Award. This award will serve as the Conference's highest honor, presented to the male and female student-athlete that best represents the characteristics of leadership and excellence on and off the field.
