AMES, Iowa – Under head coach Matt Campbell, Iowa State has seen its profile in the NFL rise each year and that trend continues this year with 10 former Cyclones on active NFL rosters on opening day.
Cyclones in the NFL will get started tonight when David Montgomery suits up for his new team, the Detroit Lions, in Kansas City. It marks Montgomery's fifth season in the NFL.
Brock Purdy, who took the league by storm a season ago, enters his second season with the San Francisco as he returns from injury. Purdy was named a captain of the 49ers on Wednesday.
The New York Jets quickly became a favorite for Iowa State fans after drafting Will McDonald IV and signing Allen Lazard in the offseason to team up with Breece Hall.
Lazard joins the Jets after five seasons in Green Bay in which he rose to a prominent role as a favorite target for Aaron Rodgers. Hall was having a big rookie season before a knee injury shortened his first year in the league.

Also in the AFC, Charlie Kolar returns to Baltimore for his second season after an injury plagued rookie campaign. Kolar figures to have more of an impact this season for the Ravens.
Jake Hummel went from undrafted to earning a roster spot in 2022 with the Los Angeles Rams. Hummel, who played in seven games last season and finished with four tackles, had a pick-six in this season's preseason.
Xavier Hutchinson (Houston Texans) and Anthony Johnson Jr. (Green Bay Packers) were both drafted in April and made their respective squads.
Kene Nwangwu made Minnesota's roster but will be sidelined due to injury for at least the season's first four games. Nwangwu is a key special teamer for the Vikings as well as a backup running back. He has three career kick return touchdowns.
Former Cyclone offensive lineman Julian Good-Jones earned a spot on the Philadelphia practice squad after a strong training camp.
