Cyclones In the NFL: Conference Championship Weekend

Brock Purdy and the 49ers will head to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas after defeating the Detroit Lions, 34-31, in the NFC Championship. The 49ers went into halftime down 24-7 to the Lions and required a big performance from their quarterback to come back. Purdy did just that, completing 81 percent of his passes for 174 yards and one touchdown in the second half to lead the comeback.

On the day, Purdy completed 64 percent of his passes while throwing for 267 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Purdy added 48 yards in the rushing game, which were all unscripted and came out of a passing situation due to Purdy being pressured on 41.7 percent of his dropbacks. Thirty-three of Purdy's 48 rushing yards came after contact, showing resilience in front of a hungry Lions' defense.

Purdy will become the first seventh round quarterback to start in the Super Bowl. At 24 years old, he will also be the third youngest quarterback to ever start in a Super Bowl, behind only Dan Marino and Ben Roethlisberger who both started at a Super Bowl at 23.

David Montgomery had a fantastic effort for the Lions in their loss to the 49ers. Montgomery had 113 all-purpose yards, with 93 yards and one touchdown coming in the running game. Montgomery led all rushers in the game with 93 yards.

On the season, Montgomery rushed for 1,198 yards and 15 rushing touchdowns on the season. His efforts included his first season of double-digit rushing touchdowns and his second 1,000 yard rushing season in the NFL.
