DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team posted a strong opening day at the Bulldog Classic Friday, highlighted by a 3-1 mark in doubles play.
Julia Camblor and Valeska San Martin Ramirez beat the Huskers' Lucy Toy and Tiziana Rossini, 6-4, in their opening match. The pair followed that with a dominant 6-0 victory against Creighton's Valerie Negin and Bianca Rademacher.
Gabriela Felix and Suzanie Pretorius earned a 6-4 win against Nebraska's Maria Taranova and Yuzu Miyoshi before falling in their second match.
In singles action, Camblor produced an impressive comeback in her match against CU's Rademacher. After dropping the first set, 6-1, Camblor took set two 7-5 and then held off her Bluejay opponent in the tiebreaker, 10-8.
San Martin also earned a singles win in come-from-behind fashion, beating Nebraska's Rossini in the super tiebreak. After dropping the first set, 7-5, San Martin took the second set 7-6 and then won 10-6 in the third and deciding set.
Action continues Saturday in Des Moines.
