No. 8 Iowa State Rolls Past Chicago State, 96-56

AMES, Iowa – No. 8 Iowa State picked up the season-opening victory against Chicago State by a score of 96-56 Monday morning. The result extends Iowa State's winning streak to 30 games in season openers, the longest active streak in NCAA DI women's basketball.
Iowa State held Chicago State scoreless for the first 9:57 minutes of play to lead 29-3 after one and took a 52-19 advantage into halftime. The Cyclones commanded the game to seal the win shooting at over 50 percent from the field while totaling 10 3-pointers.
Four Cyclones scored in double figures led by Addy Brown with 20. Audi Crooks had her 33rd straight game with 10 or more points totaling 16 while freshman Aili Tanke scored 12 in her first career game. Alisa Williams also scored 12 in her first outing as a Cyclone.
Brown was magnificent coming one rebound shy of a double-double with 20 points and 9 rebounds. The sophomore also had five assists, a career-high tying three blocks and a steal in 23 minutes of play.
How it Happened
The Cyclones scored the games' first 29 points as ISU shot its first four 3-pointers without a miss, including two by freshman Tanke. After one quarter of play, Iowa State led 29-3.
Chicago State would make three baskets including two from deep to start the second, making the scoreboard read 33-11 with eight minutes to play. Brown would send in a bucket midway through the quarter and completed the and-1 opportunity on her next trip down the court as ISU led 40-13. The Cyclones extended their scoring run to 15 straight capped on an Emily Ryan 3-pointer to go up 49-13 with just over two minutes remaining in the half. Iowa State took a 52-19 lead into the intermission.
Crooks opened scoring in the half while Brown shot her second 3-pointer within the first minute to keep the Cyclones rolling. Kenzie Hare then fought through traffic and muscled in the layup, drawing a foul and following to make her free throw and extend Iowa State's lead to over 40 (60-19). With 2:28 left in the third, Tanke stretched a run to 12 with her third made 3 to enter double figures as ISU led by 52 at 76-24. Entering the final quarter, Iowa State stood in front 81-34.
The Cyclones went on to seal the victory by a final of 96-56.
Top Performer
Addy Brown had the sixth 20-plus point game of her career while tying her career high with three blocks. The sophomore shot 6-of-9 from the field and 2-of-3 from deep while making six free throws with just one miss.
