AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State swimming and diving team (3-5, 0-2 Big 12) trail the Kansas Jayhawks (5-3, 0-0 Big 12) by a score of 102.5 to 62.5 after the first day of competition. Nine of the 17 events scheduled for the dual meet were completed as part of the Friday night session, including the new team diving event.Â
The meet began with the 200 medley relay where the Cyclones came in second with a time of 1:44.13, only .03 seconds behind the Kansas relay squad.
Iowa State had a pair of victories in the following two events. Corinne Guist took first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:20.83. Brinley Horras followed up that performance with a 200 free victory at a time of 1:53.04. The victory took her to No. 17 on the all-time points leaderboard.Â
Emma Kuhn led the way for the Cyclones in the 100 back with a second-place finish. The freshman's time of 57.33 gave her a fifth top two finish in her young collegiate career.Â
Winter Craig swam at a time of 2:06.33 in the 200 fly, strong enough for second place overall.Â
In diving, Lauren Kimball finished in second place in 1-meter diving while setting a new PR of 305.77. Ally Blumenfeld also had a PR in the event with a final score of 278.20.Â
The 50 free capped off the night for both squads and two Cyclones secured top-three finishes. Carley Caughron (23.84) led the way with a second-place finish while Andie Quirke (24.00) finished in third.Â
Senior Day for the Cyclones will start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning and the conclusion of the dual meet is set for 10 a.m.
