San Martin and Arangio Pick Up Wins At Baylor

WACO, Texas – Gala Arangio and Valeksa San Martin grabbed singles wins Friday as Iowa State fell to No. 30 Baylor, 5-2.
Arangio grabbed her first win in Big 12 play as she went up against Danielle Tuhten at the No. 6 singles spot. Arangio would take the first set in dominant fashion, a 6-1 win, before dropping the next set by the same score. Arangio fought hard and would take the 10-point super breaker, 10-7, taking the match.
San Martin would add another win just moments later as she took down Zuzanna Frankowska in another super breaker, taking the match, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0(7).
In doubles, San Martin and Arangio took up the No.3 doubles spot as they took on Baylor's Zuzanna Kubacha and Frankowska. The pair would battle tying up the match, 3-3, before dropping the set, 6-3. Ashlee Narker and Juliette Nask had a tough matchup as they went up against No. 66 Isabella Harvinson and Liubov Kostenko. A back-and-forth match finished with Baylor coming out on top, 6-4, taking the doubles point heading into singles with a 1-0 lead.
In other singles action, Narker played at the No. 2 singles spot for the first time this year. She matched up with Harvinson once again in singles where she would fight hard but ultimately dropped consecutive sets, 6-3, 6-0. The win at the No. 2 spot allowed Baylor to take a 2-0 lead, only needing two more wins to clinch the match.
Anna Supapitch Kuearum faced a nationally ranked former Cyclone in Miska Kadleckova at the No. 1 singles spot. The junior from Bangkok, Thailand battled against Kadleckova but came up short, dropping two sets, 6-1, 6-3. With this win Baylor was within one win of clinching the match.
Juliette Nask took on Kubacha at the No. 4 singles spot. Nask would get out to a 2-1 lead in the first set before dropping two sets to Kubacha falling, 6-2, 6-2. With this win Baylor clinched the winning point in the match, 4-0.
