Kuearum Grabs Singles Win In Loss To TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Iowa State tennis team (2-12, 0-7 Big 12) dropped a Big 12 match against the No. 52 TCU Horned Frogs (10-4, 6-1), 6-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The Cyclones' only win of the day came when Anna Supapitch Kuearum grabbed a win at the No. 1 singles spot against TCU's Jade Otway. Kuearum got the win in consecutive sets as she took Otway down, 6-4, 6-4. This moves Kuearum to 7-6 on the year and 3-3 in conference play, including five wins in her last eight matches.
In doubles, Kuearum and Isabella Dunlap took on TCU's Chiho Mushika and Yu-Chin Tsai. The pair tied the match at 1-1 early, but ultimately dropped the match, 6-1. Valeska San Martin and Gala Arangio went up against Destinee Martins and Helena Narmont at the No. 3 doubles spot. The pair battled back and forth with TCU's No. 3 doubles pair, before falling, 6-3. The wins allowed TCU to clinch the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead over the Cyclones.
San Martin matched up with TCU's Raquel Caballero at the No. 5 singles spot. The freshman from Ecuador fought hard against Caballero but came up short, dropping both sets, 6-2, 6-2, and giving the Horned Frogs a 2-0 lead going into the rest of the singles matches.
Juliette Nask went up against Tsai at the No. 4 singles spot. After dropping the first set, 6-1, Nask rallied to tie up the second set at 5-5, before ultimately falling, 7-5, in the second set. This put TCU up 3-1, needing only one more win to clinch the match.
Dunlap matched up with TCU's Isabel Pascual at the No. 3 singles spot. She dropped the first set, 6-2, before battling hard in the second set, where she would force a tiebreaker. She would drop the tiebreaker, 7-3, allowing TCU to clinch the match and the win.
