CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Iowa State (3-14, 1-9) tennis team rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Cincinnati (8-11, 1-9) on Friday, 4-3.
This win marked head coach Jaron Maestas' first Big 12 conference win as head coach of Iowa State.
The match came down to the No.1 singles spot where Anna Supapitch Kuearum was taking on Rozalia Gruszcyznska. After taking the first set, 7-6(4), the junior from Bangkok dropped the second set, 6-4. In the decisive third set, Kuearum battled back from being down 4-3, to win the game on an overrule, 6-4, and clinch the match for the Cyclones in the first meeting between the schools.
After Cincinnati opened up a 3-0 lead, earning the doubles point and wins at No. 3 and 4 singles, Gala Arangio earned her third Big 12 win in the last five matches, taking down Sakurako Watanabe, 6-2, 7-6(5). This win was the freshman from Argentina's fourth victory of the year.

San Martin dominated her second and third sets against Isabel Pacheco, 3-6, 6-0, 6-1, at the No.5 singles spot to tie the match up, 3-3, for the Cyclones leading to the match-clincher by Kuearum.
In doubles, Narker and Isabella Dunlap moved down to the No. 2 singles spot and made quick work of Victoria de Samucewicz and Callie Flanagan, 6-1, helping the Cyclones only need one doubles win to clinch the doubles point.
