Cyclones Claim Every Flight A Finals Spot On Day Two

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team claimed every Flight A finals spot in both singles and doubles on day two of the Jon Messick Invitational in Fort Collins, Colorado.
The duo of Anna Supapitch Kuearum and Ashlee Narker, along with the pair of Cristina Ramos Sierra and Julia Camblor, each competed in the doubles Flight A, with both advancing to the Flight A finals on Sunday.
Kuearum and Narker defeated Utah State's Niyati Kukreti and Ana Sabikova in the first round, 6-0, before beating Wyoming's Serina Abriola and Eugenia Ceinos, 6-3, to punch their ticket to the finals. Ramos and Camblor took down Wyoming's Violetta Borodina and Dilnaz Mashabayeva, 7-5, then defeated Oregon's Ruby Young and Marjorie Souza, 7-5, in the semis.
Valeska San Martin Ramirez and Suzanie Pretorius competed in doubles Flight B where they won their first-round match against South Dakota's Amanda de Oliveira and Sorcha Caves, 6-1, before falling to Oregon's Olivia Symons and Tilde Jagare, 6-3, in round two.
In Flight C, Mari Paz Alberto Vilar got paired up with Oregon's Patsy Daughters, where they won their two Saturday matches to advance to Sunday's championship game. In round one, they defeated Wyoming's Adel Ismagulova and Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia, 6-2. In the semifinals, they knocked off Utah State's Cielo Tapia-Cruz and Magdalena Nunez Pureco, 6-2, as well.
In singles, Kuearum and Narker both saw Flight A semifinals victories. Kuearum took down South Dakota's Beata Havlickova in a three-setter, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. Narker defeated Wyoming's Borodina after she was forced to withdraw from an injury.
In Flight B, Ramos suffered her first collegiate loss to Oregon's Daughters after taking the first set, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4).
Julia Camblor advanced to the Flight C finals after defeating South Dakota's Caves, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-2. Alberto Vilar fell in the Flight C semifinals to Oregon's Symons, 6-1, 2-6, 7-5. Camblor and Symons will face each other Sunday for the Flight C championship.
In Flight D, Pretorius and San Martin both fell in the semifinals after winning their first-round matches Friday. Pretorius was defeated by Colorado State's Paisha Douglas, 6-4, 6-2. San Martin dropped her match to Wyoming's Elena Trencheva, 6-0, 6-1.
