AMES, Iowa – Iowa State quarterback has been named to the Davey O'Brien Award's Great 8 for his performance in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, a 42-41 victory over Miami in Orlando, Florida.
Becht earned Pop-Tarts Bowl MVP honors after leading the Cyclones on a game-winning drive that was capped by the QB sneaking it in from a yard out with less than a minute remaining. The final drive of the game for the Cyclones was 15 plays for 84 yards in 5:43.
The redshirt sophomore finished the game 22-for-36 for 270 yards and three touchdown passes as the Cyclones won their program-record 11th game of the season. He also rushed for 23 yards and the game-winning score, the first four TD game of his career.
Becht connected with three different players for scores in the win.
The Cyclones finished the season ranked No. 15 in the final Associated Press Top 25.
