FORT MYERS, Fla. – Audi Crooks broke her own single-game scoring record and helped No. 10 Iowa State stay perfect with a 106-95 win over Indiana (7-1, 0-0 Big Ten) on Sunday. The Cyclones (9-0, 0-0 Big 12) captured the GEICO Coconut Hoops Blue Heron Division Championship with the win following Friday's victory against Marquette.
Crooks poured in an Iowa State record 47 points on 19-of-25 shooting from the floor and went 9-of-11 at the free throw line. Jada Williams added 23 points, a season high for her and just two points off her career high. Addy Brown added 17 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
How it Happened
Crooks got things started with a pair of layups to open the scoring. The Cyclone and Hoosiers traded baskets before a Jada Williams layup gave Iowa State the 8-4 lead. Indiana would tie with back-to-back jumpers, but ISU used an 8-2 run to hold a 16-10 lead halfway through the first period. Indiana would close the frame on an 14-8 run to tied things up at 24 after the first 10 minutes.
After a Hoosier jumper, Crooks scored back-to-back layups to open the second quarter. Indiana took its first lead following a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws, leading 31-28 with 6:43 remaining in the half. But Iowa State would answer with a 7-0 run, its largest of the half behind jumpers from Crooks and Reese Beaty and a triple from Williams. Williams and Beaty added two more baskets to push the ISU lead to five, but Indiana again answered with five points to make up the deficit. The two sides traded scores until a Kenzie Hare 3-pointer with 29 seconds to play in the half, her first basket of the day.
After a 4-1 Hoosier run to open the second half, Crooks responded with three baskets, broken up by Indiana scores. A 9-0 run by Iowa State, highlighted by buckets through contact from both Crooks and Beaty, helped the Cyclones to 62-55 lead with 4:20 to play in the quarter. Crooks scored eight of ISU's 13 points to end the quarter and give Iowa State the 75-68 lead with 10 minutes to play.
It was Addy Brown to continue the spark into the fourth quarter, scoring five straight points before a Crooks layup extended the Cyclone lead to 12 points early in the period. After an Indiana 3-pointer, Brown scored another layup before Kenzie Hare picked off a pass on the defensive end for a fastbreak layup. Two Crooks free throws pushed the lead to 15 before another IU triple. Jada Williams scored the next nine points via layups, jump shots and free throws to put ISU up, 97-80 with 3:41 to play. Crooks finished it off for the Cyclones, scoring the final seven points.
