AMES, Iowa - The NCAA released the second set of coaches' rankings and first RPI for the 2025 NCAA Championships on Thursday. Eight Cyclones are featured in the rankings, including five in the top-11, while three Cyclones are listed with an RPI.
Evan Frost, ranked No. 4 at 133 pounds, is Iowa State's highest ranked wrestler while Paniro Johnson (No. 6 - 149 pounds), Cody Chittum (No. 8 - 157 pounds), Jacob Frost (No. 9 - 141 Pounds) and Evan Bockman (No. 11 - 184 Pounds) round out Cyclones in the top 15. Kysen Terukina (No. 17 - 125 pounds), MJ Gaitan (No. 23 - 174 pounds) and Daniel Herrera (No. 28 - 285 pounds) are also ranked.
Both Frost brothers are No. 6 in the RPI at their respective weight classes while Herrera is No. 31 at heavyweight. All other Cyclones either fall short of the 15-match requirement to qualify for an RPI or are not in the top 33 at their weight.
The coaches' rankings are determined by a vote of 16 coaches in each weight class with two head coaches from each of the eight conferences. For ranking purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler that has been designated as a starter at a respective weight class. Wrestlers must have eight Division I matches in the weight class to be considered with at least one within the last 30 days.
The RPI is a calculation that consists of three factors: winning percentage, opponent winning percentage (strength of schedule) and opponent's opponent winning percentage (opponent's strength of schedule). Only matches against Division I opponents at the designated weight class count towards the RPI and a wrestler needs to have wrestled 15 matches to be ranked.
The coaches' ranking and RPI are two of several criteria that will be evaluated by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee during the at-large selection and seeding process along with head-to-head competition, quality wins, conference tournament placement, results versus common opponents and win percentage.
The 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships take place March 20-22 at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
