STILLWATER, Okla. – Iowa State (19-18, 8-6 Big 12) was unable to secure the series win on Saturday, as it fell to No. 17 Oklahoma State (24-13, 6-6 Big 12) in six innings by a score of 10-1.
The Cowgirls evened things up on Saturday by using some late, big innings to pull away. OSU scored seven of its 10 runs via the long ball, knocking out a pair of three-run blasts and a solo shot.
Five Cyclones secured hits, with freshman Sereniti Trice leading the way with two. Sydney Malott had the team's only RBI of the day, as the junior slammed a solo blast – her third home run of the series.
Jaiden Ralston (5-6) got the start for the Cyclones, tossing 2.2 innings. She'd go on to allow a pair of runs (one unearned) before being replaced by Abby Huhn. Huhn and Sami Potvin would handle the remaining three frames for ISU.
Three Cowgirls had multi-hit outings, with Rosie Davis leading the way with three knocks. Lexi McDonald and Megan Bloodworth each tallied three RBI, while three others secured one RBI. RyLee Crandall (2-2) got the start and the win, as she allowed just three hits in 4.1 innings of work. Katie Kutz would close things out for OSU to secure her first save of the season.
How it Happened
Each side stranded a single in the opening inning to open the contest. Iowa State would then kick off the scoring in the second frame, as Malott clobbered a 3-1 pitch over the left field fence to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.
The Cowgirls got on the board in the bottom of the third, plating a pair of runs to take a 2-1 advantage. A one-out walk was followed by a Cowgirl double, placing runners on both second and third. A HBP would load the bases before a Karli Godwin groundout drove in a run. An ISU error compounded things, allowing a second runner to score as OSU took a one-run lead.
Iowa State went three-up, three-down in the top of the fourth, before Oklahoma State tacked on a third run in the bottom of the frame. A pair of one-out singles and a walk would again load the bases for the Cowgirls who would capitalize on the moment and drive in a third run on a Rosie Davis single.
OSU put together a big inning in the fifth, placing four runs on the board. Rachael Hathoot had the first big swing, hitting a towering ball down the left line to make it 4-1. Three batters later, Megan Bloodworth notched her second homer of the series, this time a three-run shot, to make it 7-1.
Oklahoma State would end things early in the sixth, using a three-run blast from Lexi McDonald to push the score to 10-1 and earn a run-rule win.
