WACO, Texas – No. 59 Iowa State (11-11) dropped a heartbreaker, 4-2, to Colorado (9-13) in the first round of the Big 12 Championships at Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University Wednesday evening.
Iowa State opened the match taking care of business in doubles, winning at both the first and third courts to earn the point for the second time in the last three matches.
The nation's No. 80 pairing of Anna Supapitch Kuearum and Cristina Ramos Sierra quickly defeated Colorado's Ema Bubalo and Anya Nelson, 6-2. Suzanie Pretorius and Valeska San Martin beat Betina Tokac and Pia Rebec, 6-3, to clinch the important doubles point.
In singles matches, Julia Camblor was dominant in a 6-0, 6-2 win over Tokac as ISU extended its lead to 2-0. Camblor's win was her 25th of the season, moving her to sole possession of sixth-most in a single-season in school history.
But the next three went in favor of Colorado as it jumped ahead 3-2 and left it up to courts one and six.
The match ended on court one as Colorado's Mila Stanojevic rallied after dropping the first set to beat Kuearum, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
